Meet Alisa
Alisa Blackwood brings to Life in Story 20+ years of journalistic experience, work as a birth and grief/loss doula in homes and hospitals, and volunteerism as a Wish Granter for critically ill children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Alisa uses her extensive interviewing and listening skills to heartfully capture your stories and memories.
It’s an honor to hear your stories and be present for the moments you choose to share. I’m comfortable holding space for people in both celebration and in transition, in a wide variety of settings and circumstances.
Together, we’ll create a tangible preservation of your life, story or event.
I’ve always loved stories. I loved reading and hearing them as a little girl, loved the way they sent me to imaginary lands and inspired me to dream outside the pages of familiarity. I especially loved hearing true stories — stories that made family histories come alive — like the one about my adventurous grandmother driving my then-10-year-old mom and her three younger siblings from Miami to Alaska, living out of their VW bus all summer.
I love collecting and writing stories, too — stories about real people, with real lives and complexities. That’s why I became a journalist, beginning at The Associated Press and since then, working as a freelance writer for publications such as O, The Oprah Magazine, TravelandLeisure.com, Cooking Light and numerous newspapers, magazines and websites worldwide.
I’ve come to know that it isn’t the politicians or celebrities I’ve interviewed who possess the most interesting stories. It’s you.
That’s why I created Life in Story. The details, memories and intricacies of your fully-lived life deserve to be preserved now, forever.
As a birth doula and a grief and loss doula. I’ve held hands and stories as I supported people through the highest highs and lowest lows. One of my favorite volunteer roles ever is the one I do now, helping create magic and joy as a “Wish Granter” for critically ill children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
I look forward to hearing your stories, too, and creating an audio heirloom your family and friends can treasure forever.
